Earlier this month, CD Projekt RED announced that the prequel to The Witcher would be a series on Netflix. This is exciting news as we’ve been waiting to see what The Witcher: Blood Origin would be like for a long time. Now that the release date is right around the corner, it’s time to start getting excited!
Prequel to The Witcher
‘Blood Origin’ is a live-action spinoff series from Netflix’s hit original series, “The Witcher.” It will be set 1200 years before the main series. The show will focus on a prehistoric civilization in the elven world. It will also explore how the first prototype Witcher came to be. The show is set to release in December 2022.
Blood Origin will be a six-part live-action series that will be shot in the UK. The show will chart the history of the first Witcher, as well as the creation of the first monster hunting type. In the process, it will flesh out the live-action universe of the series and give viewers a better idea of how the books came to be.

Cast
Originally, Jodie Turner-Smith was to have starred in The Witcher: Blood Origin, but scheduling conflicts caused her to leave the project. In her place is Sophia Brown, who will play Eile.
The project began filming in August of 2021 in the UK. Several locations were used, including Cowleaze Wood in the Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve northwest of London. Filming will be completed in November 2021.
Aside from Michelle Yeoh, the casting list also includes Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, and Zach Wyatt. Laurence O’Fuarain will also be involved, playing Fjall Stoneheart.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is based on books by author Andrzej Sapkowski. He served as a creative consultant for the show. Several episodes were written by Declan de Barra, including the Season 2 premiere and the fourth episode. He also performed the vocals for several songs from the first season of the show.
Other writers on the series include Kiersten Van Horne, Alex Meenehan, Aaron Stewart-Ahn, and Tania Lothia. The show will also be directed by Sarah O’Gorman. She was also involved with Netflix’s Cursed and The Last Kingdom.
Release date
